Men's Track & Field Wins 2023 HCAC Indoor Championship

RESULTS

CINCINNATI, OHIO -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology earned its 12th Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's indoor track and field championship in the last 13 years with a dominant performance at the 2023 meet at Mount St. Joseph on Saturday.

Rose-Hulman won the meet with 181.33 points, followed by Manchester in second at 135 and Bluffton in third at 79 points.  The Fightin' Engineers won seven event championships, including one school record, to highlight the team performance.  

Jailen Hobbs won both the 60 and 200 to pace the individual event winners.  His 60-meter preliminary time of 6.79 seconds ranks No. 7 in NCAA Division III this season and his winning time was an equally impressive 6.83 seconds.  

Hobbs was also part of the winning 4-x-200 relay with Tyce Miller, Ian Lemons and Jack Cox in a time of 1:30.83.

Other event winners included Raymond Bates in the 400 (50.43), Kyle Brownell in the high jump (6' 4"), Tim Youndt with an HCAC record in the triple jump (47' 3"), and Logan McLaughlin in the pole vault (11' 11 3/4").

Cole was named HCAC Men's and Women's Coach of the Year to increase his career total for conference Coach of the Year honors to 31.  The coaching staff includes Derick Lawrence, Emily Lawrence, Liz Evans and Christy Sherman.

Hobbs was also named HCAC Sprint/Hurdles Athlete of the Year for his efforts.
