Softball Spring Trips Ends with Doubleheader at LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Rose-Hulman Insititute of Technology softball southern trip came to an end with 3-2 and 7-5 losses at LaGrange on Wednesday.

In game one, the Fightin' Engineers fell behind early on a triple by the Panthers in the second inning. Rose-Hulman fought back in the fifth with a double by Phoebe Worstell, an RBI double by Jadyn Winkler, and an RBI single by Kennedy Michnewicz to put the Fightin' Engineers in front 2-1.

The Panthers would tie it in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double, and a home run by Isabelle Herren in the bottom of the sixth would give LaGrange a 3-2 victory.

Worstell led the Fightin' Engineers with two doubles and came in to pitch in the sixth to get Rose-Hulman out of a jam and keep the lead at 3-2.

In game two, the Fightin' Engineers started quickly as Michnewicz followed up a Winkler double with an RBI single to put the Fightin' Engineers up 1-0. After LaGrange tied it in the bottom half, Worstell and Nicole Lang hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the third to make it 3-1 Rose-Hulman.

LaGrange would answer with six straight runs, but the Fightin' Engineers were able to mount a comeback in the seventh. After a leadoff single by Lang, Worstell roped her third double of the day to make the lead 7-4. The Fightin' Engineers then brought the tying run to the plate following a bloop single by Ashley Pinkham. However, LaGrange would retire the next three batters to win it 7-5.

Worstell led the Fightin' Engineers in game two with two doubles and two RBIs to give her four doubles and three RBIs on the day. Lexi Fortuna, Lang, and Michnewicz each added two hits in the second game as well.

LaGrange improved to 4-8 on the season, while Rose-Hulman completed its spring trip at 1-5.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Saturday March 11 at Greenville.
