TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team remained perfect in HCAC play with an 8-5 victory over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon. The Fightin' Engineers host the second and third games of the three-game series.
The Lions got it started first with a run in the top of the first inning, but the Fightin' Engineers would bounce back with three in the first and one in the second to take a 4-1 lead.
Colter Couillard-Rodak,
Dalton Busboom, and
Andy Krajecki all recorded RBI hits.
Rose-Hulman would continue to add on to their lead with two more in the fourth on an RBI triple by
Peter Rogers and another RBI by Couillard-Rodak. They would also tack on two more in the sixth on another RBI hit by Rogers and an RBI single by Busboom.
Ian Kline led the Rose-Hulman pitching staff with six strong innings. He gave up five runs (three earned) and struck out seven.
Zacheus Carr came in to pick up his first save of the season with three innings of one hit baseball. He struck out four batters out of the minimum nine he faced.
The Fightin' Engineers improve to 11-6 on the season and 3-0 in the HCAC while Mount St. Joseph drops to 12-6 on the season and 2-2 in the HCAC. The second and third games of the series will take place on Sunday at 12 PM and 3 PM.
