Pair of Extra-Inning Walk-Offs Lead Rose-Hulman Past the Lions

VIDEO: GAME 1 WALKOFF HR DALTON BUSBOOM

VIDEO: GAME 2 WALKOFF 1B MASON RASMUSSEN

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology stayed perfect in HCAC play with a doubleheader sweep of Mount St. Joseph to complete the three-game sweep. The Fightin' Engineers won the first game 10-8 and the second game 10-9 on a pair of walk-offs by Dalton Busboom and Mason Rasmussen.

Mount St. Joseph started the first game strong, getting out to an 8-1 lead on three home runs including going back-to-back in the first inning. The lone Rose-Hulman run early came on an RBI single by Conner O'Connell.

Rose-Hulman looked to battle back in the seventh with a run on an RBI groundout by Jonathan Oliger, but they would trail 8-2 going into the eighth.

In the eighth inning, the flood gates opened with a huge rally. After an RBI single by Colter Couillard-Rodak and a two-run home run by Andy Krajecki, the Fightin' Engineers were able to load the bases for the pinch hitter, Mark Serdinak. Serdinak delivered with a bases-clearing, pinch-hit double to tie the game at eight.

After a couple of shutout innings by Warren Goik, Dalton Busboom walked it off in the bottom of the tenth inning with a two-run bomb over the left field wall following a lead-off hit by pitch by Ben Christiansen.

In the second game, Rose-Hulman started early with an RBI single by Couillard-Rodak in the first inning and an RBI double by Mason Rasmussen in the second inning. Mount St. Joseph answered in the second with three runs and scored three more in the fifth to once again take a 6-2 lead halfway through.

The Fightin' Engineers would answer the three-run fifth with a pair of runs of their own. Christiansen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Rasmussen added his second RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Then, in the sixth inning, the Fightin' Engineers would tie the game on a two-run bomb by Kade Kline that went over the netting in right field. Later in the inning, Rasmussen added his third and fourth RBIs of the game with a two-run single to give Rose-Hulman the lead at 8-6.

Mount St. Joseph would retake the lead in the top of the seventh with three unearned runs on a pair of Rose-Hulman errors, but Rose-Hulman would again tie the game in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Rasmussen for his fifth RBI.

In the top of the ninth inning, the Fightin' Engineers got out of a two-on, one-out jam with a taylor made double play up the middle.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Fightin' Engineers loaded the bases on a two-out single by Peter Rogers and a double by Couillard-Rodak, but following an intentional walk, Caleb Frakes struck out to end the threat.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Dalton Busboom reached third base to lead off the inning on an error by the left fielder before Mason Rasmussen walked it off with an RBI single for his sixth RBI of the game.

In game 1, Krajecki, Busboom, and O'Connell lead the team with two hits each.

In the second game, Couillard-Rodak led the team with four hits, and Rasmussen added three hits and six RBIs.

Rose-Hulman improved to 13-6 on the season and 5-0 in HCAC play which puts them alone in first place, while Mount St. Joseph dropped to 12-8 and 2-4 in the HCAC.  The Fightin' Engineers will return to the field on Friday night as they visit Hanover College for their first road game since February 28 at Emory.
