TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference softball leader Mount St. Joseph showcased its strength to pick up an 8-0 and 9-2 doubleheader sweep over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday at the Engineer Softball Field.
In the opener, Macy Cornelius hit a triple and a home run with three RBIs to lead the Mount St. Joseph offense. Casey Kemp struck out three in the complete game shutout victory. Â
For Rose-Hulman,
Jadyn Winkler paced the offense with a double and
Phoebe Worstell struck out six in the pitching circle.
In the nightcap,
Katelyn Sarvis blasted career home run number one to lead Rose-Hulman's offense in a 9-2 loss. Sarvis tied the score at 1-1 with the first inning home run.
Winkler added a single and one run scored. Worstell struck out five out of the bullpen for the Engineers.
Mount St. Joseph improved to 20-8 and 6-0 in HCAC play, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 6-18 and 0-8 in league games. Sunday's scheduled doubleheader with Fontbonne has been canceled due to a conference reschedulement for the host Griffins. Rose-Hulman returns home for Senior Day on Saturday at 1 pm to face Bluffton University.
