TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team remained perfect in HCAC play with a 13-7 victory over Hanover on Friday afternoon. The Fightin' Engineers move to 6-0 in the HCAC and will finish their three-game series with Hanover on Saturday at 12 PM and 3 PM.
The Fightin' Engineers started the game off in the top of the first as
Colter Couillard-Rodak singled home
Kade Kline after he singled and stole second. The Panthers would answer with a two-run single by Jacob Dupps to take a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the third, Rose-Hulman would get their bats going with four runs on six singles in the inning. Couillard-Rodak, Conner O'Connell, and
Ben Christiansen all singled home runs in the inning.
However, Hanover would answer with three runs in the fourth to tie the game at five after a bases loaded walk by Alex Christie and a two-run single by Eric Roudebush.
In the top of the sixth, the Fightin' Engineers capitalized on a two-out rally with a single by
Blake Deckard, a walk from Kline and a three-run home run by
Peter Rogers to blow the game open for an 8-5 lead.
The Panthers would chip away with one in the seventh, but Rose-Hulman added some insurance with an RBI single from Kline and an RBI triple from Couillard-Rodak in the eighth and a sacrifice fly by
Jonathan Oliger and a two-run single from Kline in the ninth to extend the lead to 13-6.
Kline led the team with four hits and four runs scored, and Couillard-Rodak added three hits. Deckard and Oliger also added a pair of hits each.
Ian Kline got the win after going six innings on the mound and struck out seven while allowing five runs.
Zacheus Carr earned the save with three innings pitched and just two runs allowed.
The Fightin' Engineers improve to 14-6 on the season and 6-0 in the HCAC while Hanover drops to 7-15 and 1-6 in the HCAC. The second and third games of the series will take place on Saturday at 12 PM and 3 PM.
