KOKOMO, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team won their first game of the day on Friday to stay alive in the loser's bracket of the HCAC Baseball Tournament. The Fightin' Engineers will battle the Anderson Ravens at 7:45 PM with the winner advancing to the HCAC Semifinal Round on Saturday afternoon.

The Manchester Spartans came out of the gates in a hurry with a pair of runs in the first inning, another in the third and one more in the fourth as they were able to take advantage of some defensive mistakes by the Fightin' Engineers.

Trailing 4-0 heading into the fifth inning, Coach Adam Rosen brought the team together for a pep talk, and the team got fired up and showed energy for the first time of the day.

After a leadoff single by Jonathan Oliger, Kade Kline was hit by a pitch, and Peter Rogers singled into right field to load the bases with nobody out. Andy Krajecki brought home a run on a Manchester error, and Dalton Busboom cut the lead in half with a hit by pitch to make it 4-2.

Then, Colter Couillard-Rodak tied the game with a two-run single up the middle. After another error by the Spartans, Ben Christiansen came up as a pinch hitter and ripped one up the middle to give Rose-Hulman the 6-4 lead.

Couillard-Rodak tacked onto the lead with another RBI single in the sixth to make it 7-4.

Rose-Hulman would tack on three more runs with two in the seventh and one in the eighth with RBIs for Oliger, Kline, and Krajecki.

Zacheus Carr finished the game with six strong innings and allowing just two hits and one run. Carr pitched a perfect 12-up and 12-down final four innings to close out the game.

Couillard-Rodak led the team with 3 RBIs and 3 hits. Oliger also added 3 hits in the win.

Rose-Hulman moves to 23-20 on the season and advance in the loser's bracket of the HCAC Tournament. They will play the Anderson Ravens at 7:45 PM tonight.
