Men's Soccer Beats Greenville 2-1 to Open 2023 Season

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team opened their 2023 season with a 2-1 road victory over Greenville.

The Fightin' Engineers jumped on the board quick in the 18th minute with the first goal of the season on a strike from their captain, Caleb Urban.

Rose-Hulman kept their foot on the gas in the first half, and they hit the crossbar twice in the 24th and 30th minutes on strikes from Julius Salinas and Connor Patton.

In the second half, it was more of the same for Rose-Hulman as they were able to work it down the field to get chances inside the box. They were able to double their lead in the 59th minute as Matthew Schwartz buried a shot in the bottom left corner off a pass from Kai Moore.

Rose-Hulman would keep the shut out going until the 86th minute when Greenville found a goal off of a deflected shot the karamed into the air and gave the keeper no chance to stop it. The Fightin' Engineers would hold on over the final four minutes for a 2-1 road victory.

Urban led the team with 4 shots, and Salinas was the lone other Engineer with multiple attempts.

Rose-Hulman returns to action with their home opener on Sunday afternoon at 3 PM against the Washington University Bears.
