TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team opened their 2023 season with a 2-2 draw with their crosstown rival, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
Rose-Hulman came out firing early in the game with 11 shots in the first 27 minutes of the game to just 1 for the Pomeroys. However, they were unable to find the net until the 43rd minute when senior captain
Kiana Martin buried a shot off of an assist from
Endia Clark.
The Pomeroys would answer back a minute later in the 44th minute as Kaylee Lowe scored on a pass from Sierra Mullins to send the game into the half, tied 1-1.
In the second half, Rose-Hulman found the go-ahead goal in the 66th minute with a header from
Katie Choi, but she was called for offsides to keep the game level at one.
In the 85th minute, striker
Kyra Hicks finally found what seemed like the game-winner in the 85th minute off an assist from Martin.
However, the Pomeroys remained relentless and tied the game just a minute later once again with a goal from Mullins.
The game would end in a 2-2 draw despite Rose-Hulman outshooting the Pomeroys 28-11.
Lily Dore made 3 saves in goal for the Fightin' Engineers. Hicks led the team with 10 shots and 3 shots on goal.
Rose-Hulman returns to action with their home opener on Sunday evening at 5 PM against the Knox Prairie Fire.
