TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer won their home opener over Knox 4-0 on a hot Sunday afternoon thanks to pair of first-career goal scorers.
Rose-Hulman wasted no time getting the scoring going as
Lauren Marquardt found
Kyra Hicks on a corner kick just 55 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead.
Then, just over four minutes later, the duo would connect again as Hicks headed one home for her second goal of the game and her third of the season.
In the 21st minute, freshman
Riley Heasley took a pass from
Jayden Gibson down the right side of the field and surprised everyone by firing a shot into the upper left corner when everyone else was expecting a cross. The goal was Heasley's first of her career in the game where she made her first career start.
Just before the half, the Fightin' Engineers would find the back of the net again as
Alex Adams connected with her left foot off a touch from
Endia Clark to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Fightin' Engineers would outshoot Knox 39-0 in the win.
Sarah Shibuya led the team with five shots.
Rose-Hulman will return to their home pitch on Wednesday night as they host in-state rival Wabash for a 7 PM kickoff.
