WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The Rose-Hulman Insititute of Technology volleyball team fell in a pair of matches at Wisconsin-Whitewater to open the season. The Fightin' Engineers will battle Edgewood at 10 AM CT and Lakeland at 2 PM CT to end the Whitewater Invitational.

In the opener, Rose-Hulman trailed 16-9 early on to Wheaton (IL), but the Fightin' Engineers answered the call with a 6-0 run behind serves from Kylie Rathbun to tie the match up and eventually win the opening set.

After Wheaton took the second set, the two teams battled about as close as you can get in the next two sets as Rose-Hulman won the third set 26-24, but the Thunder were able to keep the match going with a 26-24 win in the fourth set.

In the fifth set, Wheaton was lights out hitting .294 to kill of the match as the Fightin' Engineers fell 25-23, 17-25, 26-24, 24-26, 7-15.

Allie Fults and Kate Wood led the team with 10 kills each, and Sophia Koop and Megan Korte kept the balanced attack going with 9 kills. Jillian Gregg added 33 assists on those kills.

Kylie Rathbun and Lily Ebright led the team with 4 service aces, and Ebright added 23 digs in the opener.

In the second match of the day, the Fightin' Engineers fell to #12 Wisconsin-Whitewater 18-25, 18-25, 11-25. They battled hard with one of the best teams in the nation, but eventually, the Warhawks were too much.

Rathbun, Koop, and Korte led with 6 kills a piece, and Gregg added 22 assists. Ebright and Koop added 14 and 13 digs to pace the team as well.

Rose-Hulman returns to action tomorrow in Whitewater, Wisconsin as they look to bounce back against Edgewood at 10 AM CT and Lakeland at 2 PM CT.
