Volleyball Picks Up First Win of Season; Splits Saturday Games

WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team split their Saturday matches with a win over Lakeland and a loss to Edgewood at Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Fightin' Engineers finished the weekend 1-3 overall with several hard-fought matches.

In the opener, Rose-Hulman won the first set 25-21 thanks to a .273 hitting percentage on 14 kills to just 2 errors. However, Edgewood caught fire in the next two sets with just 5 hitting errors combined, and they would win the match 21-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-19.

Kate Wood led the team with 15 kills, just one short of her career-high. Allie Fults dominated in the middle with 7 blocks and 6 kills.

Jillian Gregg set a career-high with 37 assists, and she added 12 digs. Lily Ebright led the team with 24 digs.

In the second game of the day, the Fightin' Engineers dropped the first set to Lakeland, 25-16. However, they battled back in a major way to cruise through the next two sets winning them 25-14 and 25-16.

In the fourth set, the Muskies came out on fire winning the first five points and leading 7-2. However, the Fightin' Engineers clawed their way back and won the set 25-23 to clinch their first match win of the season.

Wood and Megan Korte led the team in the second match with 14 kills a piece. Sophia Koop also reached double figures with 11.

Gregg finished one shy of her career-high with 36 assists to give her 73 in today's two matches. Ebright also reached the 30 mark with 30 digs in the win.

Rose-Hulman returns to action next weekend as they join the NCAC as part of the MIAA-NCAC Challenge at DePauw University. The Fightin' Engineers will play Trine and Adrian on Friday before taking on Kalamazoo on Saturday.
