TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team took down DePauw 2-0 on Wednesday night thanks to a pair of assists from
Caleb Urban. Urban recorded his 27th and 28th career assists which breaks the school record, previously held by Dieter Schultz, a 2016 graduate.
The Fightin' Engineers got the scoring started early as
Caleb Urban connected with
Connor Patton who put the ball in the back of the net in the 21st minute.Â
Rose-Hulman had another nearly identical opportunity in the 27th minute as Urban ripped another ball into the box, and Patton just missed connecting for his brace.
In the second half, the Fightin' Engineers quickly doubled their lead with a goal in the 49th minute as
Peter Borger took the ball up the right side off a nice give and go from Urban. Borger put his right foot into one and lofted it deep to the back post and into the upper 90 for the sophomore's first career goal.
DePauw had plenty of chances to get one back in the second half, but
John Biederstedt had an excellent game. He recorded just three saves, but he made plenty of plays on dangerous balls through the box, and he somehow got his glove on a one-v-one opportunity at the top of the 18 yard box as he came off his line to make the save.
Rose-Hulman moves to 2-2-1 on the season, and they will hit the road again this Saturday for a tough matchup with the Hope Flying Dutch.
