ROCK ISLAND, Ill -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's volleyball team went 1-1 at the Augustana Invitational on Saturday. The Fightin' Engineers beat Clarkson 3-0 to start the day before falling to Grinnell 3-0 in the final match of the day.
The Fightin' Engineers took care of business in a hard fought first match of the day which was dead-even all the way. The Fightin' Engineers won the first set 25-23 as the two teams hit 0.078 and 0.077 in the set.
Rose-Hulman dominated the second set en route to a 25-19 victory, but the third set was a battled once again. Rose-Hulman would pull it out 29-27 to win the match despite both teams hitting an idential 0.164 in the set.
Lily Ebright recorded her second consecutive match with 37 digs which ranks 2nd in school history for digs in a 3-set match.
Kate Wood and
Jillian Gregg led the team with 11 kills. Gregg hit .308 to lead the team.
Kylie Rathbun and
Sophia Koop joined Gregg and Wood as four players to all hit over .200 for the match.
In the second match, Grinnell came out strong with a 25-10 win in the first set as they hit 0.722 as a team. They totaled 13 kills for their 18 total attacks.
The next two sets would be hard-fought battles, but Grinnell would come out on top 25-23 and 26-24 to win the match in straight sets.
Allie Fults led the team with a 0.467 hitting percentage and added 7 kills.
Megan Korte led with 10 kills.
Lily Ebright added 23 digs, and
Jillian Gregg and
Hayden Hamilton added 15 and 12 assists.
The Fightin' Engineers will return to action on Tuesday night as they host the Webster Gorloks in their 2023 home opener.
