TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team took down Webster 3-0 in the first game of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon thanks to a hat trick from
Ella Johnson.
Johnson got the scoring started less than a minute after coming onto the field as she flicked a header past the keeper into the top part of the goal.
Kiana Martin recorded the assist on the goal in the 27th minute.
The Fightin' Engineer wasted no time doubling their lead in the 29th minute as Johnson stole a pass from the Gorloks' defense and took it down the field before burying a shot just past the diving keeper to make it 2-0.
Rose-Hulman added a third goal just before the half as
Megan Foder took the ball through the Webster defense and dished off a pass to Johnson who buried her third goal of the game to complete her first half hat trick.
In the second half, the Gorloks fought back with a goal off a corner kick in the 51st minute to get back on the board.
Grace Rodgers then scored again five minutes later to cut the lead to 1.
The Gorloks tied the game in the 74th minute, and the game would finish in a 3-3 draw.
Ella Johnson became the tenth player in Rose-Hulman history to record a hat trick, and she is the first Fightin' Engineer with a hat trick since Jessica Wells in 2019. Johnson
The three goals allowed is the most allowed at home for the women's soccer team since October of 2018.
The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Friday night as they travel to St. Louis to take on the Wash U Bears who are ranked #4 in the country.
