TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology football team ran all over the Anderson defense on Saturday afternoon as they cruised to a 64-3 win on Homecoming. The Fightin' Engineers improve to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the HCAC.
Rose-Hulman got the scoring started early as
Miguel Robertson found
Jailen Hobbs for a 33-yard touchdown, and
Jay Smith added his first touchdown to make it 14-0 after the first quarter.
After an Anderson field goal to make it 14-3, Rose-Hulman really stepped on the gas pedal as Robertson hit
Daniel Huery for a 34-yard touchdown.
Grant Ripperda and Smith would each scamper into the endzone for halftime hit with a 35-3 advantage for the Fightin' Engineers.
In the third quarter, Ripperda and Smith each found the endzone once again, and a blocked punt added salt to the wound to stretch the lead to 50-3.Â
Rose-Hulman would add two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter as two more players found the endzone on the ground with
Alexander Marsteller and
Josh Pearson.
The Fightin' Engineers finished the game with 300 rushing yards and 7 rushing touchdowns. It is the first time that Rose-Hulman has recorded 300 rushing yards in a game since they played at Anderson last season. It is also the first time the Fightin' Engineers recorded 7 rushing touchdowns in a game since their 2017 win over Earlham.
Jay Smith finished with 16 carries for 136 yards and 3 touchdowns, and
Grant Ripperda finished with 17 carries for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns. It is the first time that the Fightin' Engineers have had two 100-yard rushers in the same game since 2019.
Miguel Robertson finished with 128 yards and 2 touchdowns, and
Rick Easterwood finished 3-5 for 63 yards.
Jailen Hobbs and
Daniel Huery each got into the endzone with receiving touchdowns for the Fightin' Engineers.
On defense, Rose-Hulman totaled 8 sacks with
Payton Gryniewicz leading the team with 3 and
Thomas Grothe adding 2.
Adam Field and
Jack LeCrone led the team with 6 tackles, and Gryniewicz and
Joseph Bueno led with 3 tackles for a loss.
Rose-Hulman will return to action next Saturday, October 7 as they travel to Manchester to take on the Spartans.
