TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman men's basketball team hosted Earlham College on Wednesday night in a battle for the John Mutchner Cup. The Engineers came out on top in a competitive contest with a final score of 72-71. This advances the team to 5-9 overall and 3-4 in the HCAC.
The Engineers were led by a strong performance from
Miles McGowen recording his third double-double in a row and his fourth of the season with 28 points and 14 rebounds. McGowen ended the game shooting 13-19 from the floor in a stellar performance.
Cole Pride was the team's next highest scorer with nine points in the contest.
After trailing the Quakers 39-30 at halftime, the Engineers battled back to tie the game at 48-48 on a made layup by
Bradley Harden with 11:53 left in the second half. The game remained close with both team's trading the lead. A made jumper by McGowen tied the game at 71-71 with 41 seconds remaining.
Harden was able to get to the free throw line on a hard drive to the rim with a chance to take the lead in the final seconds. He made the first free throw to seal the win for the Engineers and claim the Mutchner Cup.
The Engineers will return to action hosting Transylvania on Saturday, 1/13 at 3 PM.
