TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball fell 82-80 in a back and forth nailbitter to the Franklin Grizzlies.
The Fightin' Engineers trailed 23-13 after a rough first quarter, but they responded in a hurry with a 15-0 run in the first 3:41 of the second quarter to take a five point lead.
Rose-Hulman would use a 30-point second quarter to cut the Franklin lead to 1 at the break.
In the second half, the back and forth game would continue with two ties and four lead changes in the third quarter. The Fightin' Engineers would cut the lead to two five different times in the final quarter, but they were unable to get any closer and fell 82-80.
Manuella Shomba dominated the paint with 19 points and 3 assists in the win.
Sophia Reese also added 14 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals.
Grace Roland and
Jamie Baum were also in double figures with 12. Roland added 9 rebounds, and Baum added 6 assists and 3 steals.
The Fightin' Engineers will return to action on Saturday, January 6 at 1 PM as they travel to Defiance to take on the Yellow Jackets.
