DEFIANCE, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team cruised to a 66-37 victory on the road to snap a three-game HCAC losing streak.
After a back and forth first quarter that ended 15-15, Defiance hit a three early in the second quarter to take their biggest lead of the game at 18-15 with 9:09 to go in the half.
Rose-Hulman would answer in a major way as they ended the first half on an 18-2 run to take a 33-20 into the halftime locker room.
In the second half, the Fightin' Engineers continued their run by scoring the first 9Â points of the half. They would stretch their lead to 42-20 with a 27-2 run over a 14 minute span, and they would roll to the 29-point victory.
CK Gallegos-Rodriguez did it all for the Fightin' Engineers as she finished just shy of a double-double with 9 points, 10 rebounds, 6 steals, 5 blocks, and 5 assists. She is the first player in Rose-Hulman women's basketball history to record 5 blocks, 5 steals, and 5 assists in a single game.
Emilia Diaz led the team in scoring with a career-high 11 points in the first double-digit scoring game of her career.
Jamie Baum also finished in double figures with 10.
Sophia Reese finished with 5 points and 3 assists, and she added a career-high 4 steals in the win.
Tori Scales also added a career-high 4 points.
Every Rose-Hulman player that played more than five minutes scored in the balanced effort for the Fightin' Engineers.
With the win, Rose-Hulman improves to 6-7 on the season and 3-3 in the HCAC. The Fightin' Engineers will return to the court next Wednesday, January 10 as they travel to Earlham to take on the Quakers.
