TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball dropped a heartbreaker in overtime on Wednesday night against Anderson 71-68.
The game was back-and-forth for its entirety with 13 ties and 7 lead changes throughout.
Rose-Hulman opened up hot out of the gate with an 8-0 lead, but the Ravens would come storming back. After cutting the lead to five, the entire game would be played within ten points as neither team led by more than five for the rest of the game.
The Fightin' Engineers took a 56-52 lead with 7:25 to go in the fourth quarter, but a four minute scoring drought would allow Anderson to tie it up at 56. Rose-Hulman would retake their four-point lead at 62-58, but once again, Anderson battled back to tie the game with 25 seconds to go and send the game to overtime.
In overtime, the two teams traded three consecutive baskets, and with the game tied at 68, Anderson would capitalize on three offensive rebounds to get extra possessions at the charity stripe. Rose-Hulman still had a chance to tie it after Anderson went 3-6 from the foul line and only led by three, but
Ashley Black's three at the buzzer would miss wide and the Ravens would hold on for the win.
Black led the team with 21 points, 15 of which came in the first half.
Grace Roland added 14 points and 8 rebounds, and
Manuella Shomba finished with her fourth double double of the season with 11 points and 11 boards.
Mira Randolph finished with 7 points and a career-high 4 steals, and
Sophia Reese chipped in 7 assists.
