BEREA, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team earned all three points and remained unbeaten in the HCAC on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win in their first ever match at Berea.
The Fightin' Engineers struck first in the 11th minute as a cross from
Taylor Beede deflected off
Lauren Marquardt and fell to
Riley Heasley at the top of the 18. Heasley then struck her right boot through it and buried it past the diving keeper for the second career goal and first goal of the season for the Kentucky native.
In the 36th minute, Rose-Hulman doubled their lead as
Ally Smith played a perfect ball over the top to
Emma Johns who found herself alone with the ball without a defender within 15 yards of the forward as she calmly slotted the shot home for a 2-0 lead.
Just five minutes later, the Mountaineers would get one back as the high press forced a turnover by
Vianey Garcia and allowed a shot just outside the 18 to find the back of the net to make it 2-1.
The Fightin' Engineers came storming out of the locker room with a goal in under a minute as
Kyra Hicks found the back of the net off a corner kick to extend the lead to 3-1.
Rose-Hulman would hold on for the 3-1 victory as they outshot the Mountaineers 22-2 in the win.
With the win, the Fightin' Engineers improve to 4-6-1 on the season and 3-0-1 in the HCAC. They will return to action on Wednesday evening as they travel to the Indianapolis suburbs to take on the Franklin Grizzlies at 7 PM.
