Women's Soccer Rides Offensive Explosion to 5-0 Victory

FRANKLIN, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team rode an offensive explosion to a 5-0 victory over the Franklin Grizzlies to remain unbeaten in the HCAC and tied for the top spot in the conference.

Just 11 minutes into the game, the Fightin' Engineers took an early lead as Jayden Gibson played a perfectly weighted long-ball over the top to Kyra Hicks who made one defender miss and slotted it home to the near post for a 1-0 lead.

Right before the half, Rose-Hulman doubled their lead as Lauren Marquardt crossed one across the face of goal and Sydnee Schuler found the end of it for an easy tap in at the back post.

In the 71st minute, the Fightin' Engineers found their way to the penalty spot off a handball by the Grizzlies, and Kiana Martin, the senior captain, stepped up and buried one in the lower left corner.

Rose-Hulman added a fourth goal just 37 seconds later as Schuler secured her brace off a cross from Emma Johns.

Sarah Shibuya capped off the scoring in the 78th minute as she chipped the keeper from 30 yards out off an assist from Meagan Hall.

Rose-Hulman outshot the Grizzlies 26-1 in the win, taking the last 26 shots in the game after Franklin's lone shot came in the 2nd minute.

With the win, the Fightin' Engineers improve to 5-6-1 on the season and 4-0-1 in the HCAC. They return to action on Saturday afternoon as they host the Earlham Quakers for a 1 PM kickoff.
