Strong Defensive Performance Leads Men's Soccer to 2-0 Victory

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 victory over Franklin on Wednesday night to remain unbeaten in HCAC play and on top of the conference.

The Fightin' Engineers outshot the Grizzlies 26-0 in the win for just the third game in Rose-Hulman men's soccer history in which they held their opponent without a shot joining a 9-0 win over Earlham in March of 2021 and a 10-0 win over William Penn in 1999.

After a scoreless first half, Rose-Hulman jumped on the board as Ryan Shapiro split through the defense, laid off a pass to Oliver Fila, who ripped a ball into the middle which was tapped home by Eli Miller for a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute.

Six minutes later, Miller returned the favor as he found Shapiro for a right-footed strike that he powered past the keeper into the top right corner to double the lead.

John Biederstedt earned his third consecutive clean sheet, just one shy of his career-high clean sheet streak in the win.

With the win, the Fightin' Engineers improve to 6-4-3 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference with a three-point lead over Transylvania and Hanover.
