Men's Soccer Clinches First Round Bye with 2-1 Win over Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team picked up a big three points with a 2-1 win over Anderson on Wednesday afternoon. The win clinches the Fightin' Engineers a first-round bye in the HCAC Tournament with a chance to win the regular season title outright on Saturday.

The Fightin' Engineers went on the road in a crucial HCAC contest on Wednesday, and they opened the scoring first with Eli Miller scoring in the 39th minute for a 1-0 lead. The goal for Miller extended his streak to three consecutive games with a goal scored.

Anderson opened the second half with a flurry of opportunities and leveled the scoreline in the 50th minute. The goal for the Ravens snapped a 417 minute scoreless streak by the Rose-Hulman backline, ranking as the 15th longest streak in program history.

In the 68th minute, Rose-Hulman found the go-ahead goal with Ryan Shapiro one-upping Miller with a goal in his fourth consecutive contest. Shapiro is the first player to score goals in four consecutive games since Drew Belk scored in five straight games in 2012.

The Fightin' Engineers would outlast the Ravens and hold on for the 2-1 win to remain unbeaten in HCAC play. The result also extends the Fightin' Engineers' unbeaten streak to eight consecutive games, their longest since the 11-game unbeaten streak in 2022.

John Biederstedt earned the win in goal with one save made for the senior keeper. Miller and Shapiro led the team with four shots, and Oliver Fila and Julius Salinas each tallied a pair.

With a win, the Fightin' Engineers improve to 8-4-3 on the season and 6-0-1 in the HCAC. With 19 points, the Fightin' Engineers can clinch the #1 seed in conference play on Saturday with a win over the Mount St. Joseph Lions on Senior Day.
