Women's Soccer Extends Win Streak to Five after Win over Anderson

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team secured their fifth consecutive win after defeating Anderson on Wednesday night with a final score of 2-1. The win helps clinch the Fightin' Engineers a top-3 seed in the HCAC Tournament with a chance to clinch a first-round bye on Saturday.

The Fighitn' Engineers got on the board first in the 32nd minute of the first half on a goal by Lauren Marquardt assisted by Emma Johns and Kyra Hicks. Hicks cut through the Anderson defense and dished off to Johns who touched a pass on to Marquardt. Marquardt then ripped a left-footed shot past the diving keeper for the 1-0 lead.

Anderson netted the equalizer early in the second half in the 51st minute after having several opportunities to level the score line.

Katie Choi became the hero for the Fightin' Engineers in the 73rd minute with a game-winning goal. Riley Heasley ripped a shot that was saved by the Anderson keeper, but Sydnee Schuler touched the rebound to Choi who put it in the back of the net for a 2-1 lead.

Rose-Hulman outshot Anderson 19-7 with an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal in the win. Choi led the team with 3 shots and 2 shots on goal. Lily Doré also added 2 saves in goal in the win.

With the win, the Fightin' Engineers improve to 7-6-1 on he season and 6-0-1 in the HCAC. The team returns to action on Saturday, October 26 for their Senior Day contest with the Mount St. Joseph Lions at 1 PM.
