Women's Soccer Drops Senior Day Contest against Mount St. Joseph

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team came up short in a senior day contest with Mount St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 loss to the Lions. The looss snapped the seven-match unbeaten streak for the Fightin' Engineers.

In a battle of the top two teams in the HCAC, Rose-Hulman and Mount St. Joseph threw blow after blow in the first half in a very competitive contest. The Lions found the opener in the 27th minute as the Lions connected on an excellent set piece opportunity.

The teams would combine for just five shots in the opening half, but Mount St. Joseph carried the lead into the halftime break.

The second half of action offered more of the same between the two HCAC heavyweights. Kyra Hicks had the best opportunity for Rose-Hulman in the 80th minute, but the Mount St. Joseph keeper was able to keep Rose-Hulman off the board and hold on for the 1-0 victory.

Hicks led the team with two shots, and Alexis Willour and Ally Smith each added one shot. Lily Doré made two saves in goal for Rose-Hulman.

With the loss, the Fightin' Engineers fall to 7-7-1 on the season and 6-1-1 in the HCAC. Rose-Hulman will return to action on Wednesday, October 30 at 7:30 PM as they visit Manchester to take on the Spartans. The Fightin' Engineers must beat the Spartans and have a Mount St. Joseph Lions win or draw on Wednesday in order to earn a first-round bye in the HCAC Tournament.
