TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team picked up their first win of the 2024-25 season with a wire to wire victory over the Principia Panthers.
The Fightin' Engineers jumped out to an early 9-0 lead in the first 2:50 of the game, and they never looked up as Rose-Hulman would lead wire to wire in the 11-point victory.
The team would stretch their lead to 19 at the end of the first half with a 42-23 lead heading into the locker room.
In the second half, the Panthers continued to battle and cut into the lead, but they just could not get it down to single digits. However, with 1:44 on the clock in the fourth quarter, they knocked down a three to cut the lead to six, the closest the game had been since two minutes into the contest.
However,
Jamie Baum would seal the win for the Fightin' Engineers, going 4-4 at the line to put a cap on her third consecutive 20-point performance.
Baum finished the game with 20 points and 13 rebounds for her fifth career double double.
Katelyn Fennell added 16 points and 11 rebounds, and
Julia Meyer finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for their first career double doubles in the win. It is the first time since the win over Elmhurst last season that multiple players recorded double doubles.
Emma Schipp also finished in double figures with 12 points and 6 boards in the win.
The Fightin' Engineers dominated on the glass to help lead their squad to the win, outrebounding the Panthers 55-34 with 17 offensive rebounds.
With the win, Rose-Hulman improves to 1-2 on the season. They will return to action on Saturday, November 30 as they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to take on the #18 WashU Bears in the opening game of the Midwest Challenge, one of the premier tournaments in Division III women's college basketball.
