Lauren Marquardt Sends Women's Soccer to HCAC Title Game

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team advanced to the HCAC Championship match with a 1-0 win over the Transylvania Pioneers on Wednesday night.

The first half was a back and forth battle with neither team able to create many chances at all. With only five shots total between the two squads, the Pioneers had the best opportunity in the 31st minute as Makenna Johnson ripped a shot that was saved by Lily Doré.

The Fightin' Engineers jumped out of a cannon in the second half and took the lead after Alex Adams rang a shot off the crossbar and Lauren Marquardt followed up with a header that found the back of the net.

Transylvania had a pair of scoring chances in the 62nd minute, but the defense came up big as Ally Smith saved a shot off the line and Doré made another save to keep Rose-Hulman in front.

Rose-Hulman would hold on in the final 30 minutes and come away with the 1-0 win in their final home game of the season.

Doré made three saves in her fourth clean sheet of the season, despite Transylvania outshooting the Fightin' Engineers 7-5 in the game.

With the win, Rose-Hulman improves to 9-7-1 and clinches their eighth consecutive winning season. The team advances to the HCAC title game on Saturday, November 9 at Mount St. Joseph. The time has yet to be announced at this time. This will be the fourth time in the last six seasons that the Fightin' Engineers have advanced to the HCAC Championship match.
