GREENCASLTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's basketball fell short in their season opener with a 67-57 loss to the DePauw Tigers on Friday night.
The Fightin' Engineers opened the game with a flurry of action as they were active on the defensive end of the floor with 8 steals and 8 offensive rebounds, leading to 9 points off turnovers and 22 second chance points in the first half.
Rose-Hulman carried a four-point lead into the break, but they came out slow in the second half with a 10-2 run by the Tigers giving the DePauw a 44-43 lead.Â
The Fightin' Engineers would score the next five points to retake the four-point lead, but DePauw would answer with an 19-6 run to take control and hold on for the 67-57 victory.
Freshman
Joey Schmitz led Rose-Hulman with 12 points, and
Kobe Stoudemire also finished in double figures with 10.
Miles McGowen added a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards, and
Rocco Richie added 7 points, 3 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks as he made the hustle plays all over for the Fightin' Engineers.
With the loss, Rose-Hulman falls to 0-1 on the season. They will return to action on Friday, November 15 as they travel to St. Louis to take on the #4 WashU Bears.
