GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball picked up a 63-54 victory over the Greenville Panthers on Wednesday evening. The win was the first of the season away from the friendly confines of Hulbert Arena.
The first quarter was sloppy from both teams early on as there were 13 turnovers combined, and Greenville led 15-14 through 10 minutes of action.
In the second quarter, the Fightin' Engineers heated up from the field as they ballooned the lead to nine on a
Katelyn Fennell triple in the final minute of the half. Rose-Hulman went into the locker room with a 36-29 lead thanks to 17 bench points in the first half of action.
The Panthers cut into the lead in the with a 7-2 run to cut the lead to four at the end of the third, but Rose-Hulman responded with an 8-3 run of their own thanks to a big three by
Emilia Diaz and a key and-one by
Emma Schipp.
Clutch free throw shooting down the stretch by
Jamie Baum and Fennell helped lead the team to the 63-54 victory.
Baum led the team with 21 points, and
Emma Schipp and
Katelyn Fennell both finished in double figures with 13 and 11 points.
Schipp also added a team-high 8 rebounds and 3 steals while Fennell contributed 6 boards and 3 steals.
With the win, Rose-Hulman improves to 3-5 on the season. They return to conference play on Saturday, December 14, as they host the Anderson Ravens at 1 PM in Hulbert Arena.
