HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Rose-Hulman men's basketball team dropped the opening game of the Glenn Van Wieren Classic on Friday night with a final score of 69-64.

Daniel Savovic was the team's leading scorer with 17 points in the contest. The Fightin' Engineers had three other players reach double figures, including Joey Schmitz (14), Kobe Stoudemire (13), and Miles McGowen (11).

McGowen came up one rebound short of a double-double leading the team on the glass with nine rebounds.

Rose-Hulman held a one-point lead with a score of 26-25 with 4:34 remaining in the first half before they put together an 8-0 run capped off by two made free throws from Schmitz to build their largest lead of the game at 34-25 with 2:31 on the clock. They would enter the locker room with a 36-31 lead over the Flying Dutchmen.

Hope battled back in the second half to tie the game at 42-42 in the first four minutes. After a back-and-forth half of basketball, Hope took the lead for good on a made three-pointer just under the five-minute mark, and they would hold off the Fightin' Engineers for the 69-64 victory.

With the loss, Rose-Hulman falls to 6-4 on the season. The Fightin' Engineers will look to bounce back on Saturday, December 21 as they wrap up the Glenn Van Wieren Classic against the University of Olivet Comets at 1 PM.
