MELBOURNE, Fla.-- The Rose-Hulman softball team entered the third day of their spring trip taking on Grove City and Eastern in a doubleheader on Wednesday. The team earned an exciting victory against Grove City with a final score of 10-0, and suffered a loss to Eastern with a final score of 8-2. This moves the team to 3-3 overall this season.Â
In the first game, both teams remained scoreless through the first three innings. Rose was able to get on the board after a sacrifice fly from
Phoebe Worstell brought in
Aubrey Smith for the first run of the game.
Katelyn Sarvis singled to scoreÂ
Jadyn Winkler and extend the lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth.Â
Rose-Hulman continued to swing the bat well. The Fightin' Engineers exploded offensively scoring seven runs in the top of the seventh to seal the victory over the Wolverines.Â
Audrey Theuring earned the shutout win in the circle pitching all 7.0 innings with five strikeouts.Â
The second game of the day turned into a pitchers duel. Both teams struggled to get going offensively with a scoreless contest through five innings.
Eastern was able to get things going in the top of the sixth putting up seven runs to take a commanding lead. A double by Smith brought in two runs by
Jessica Newsom and
Katie Palmer. This cut the lead to 7-2 heading into the final inning.
Eastern would hold off the Fightin' Engineers comeback attempt to claim the win. Worstell suffered the loss in the circle pitching 5.0 innings.
The Fightin' Engineers will look ahead to face Grove City and Houghton on Thursday, February 29th at 2:30 PM and 4:45 PM.Â
