MELBOURNE, Fla.-- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers wrapped up their spring trip with a doubleheader against Alma and Grove City. The team suffered a loss to Alma with a score of 5-0, and defeated Grove City with a final of 2-0. This puts the team at 6-4 overall this season.
In the first game against Alma, Rose-Hulman struggled to get going offensively. The Scots put together a flurry of hits to take the lead after scoring four runs in the top of the second.
The Engineers continued to stall on offense finishing the game with only two hits.
Audrey Theuring was credited the loss in the circle pitching 2.0 innings with three strikeouts.
In the second game against Grove City,
Phoebe Worstell led the team to a victory in the circle. Worstell pitched 7.0 innings with five strikeouts and didn't allow a hit until the final inning.
Aubrey Smith scored on a single by
Kayla Schnippel to give Rose the lead in the top of the first.
Caledonia Coleman put another run on the board after a a single by
Jessica Newsom in the seventh to increase the lead.
Worstell shut down the Wolverines comeback attempt in the final inning ending the game on a strikeout to seal the victory.
The Fightin' Engineers will return home to host Greenville in their home opener on Saturday, March 9th at 1 PM and 3 PM.
