CARLINVILLE, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers softball team traveled to face Blackburn on Thursday afternoon. The team came away with two exciting wins with final scores of 6-5 and 10-4. This improves the team to 15-9 overall this season.
The first game featured some impressive hitting by both teams. Blackburn scored first to take a one-run lead in the second inning.
Rose-Hulman answered with a solo home run by
Aubrey Smith to tie the game in the top of the fourth.
The Fightin' Engineers extended their lead to 4-1 after a double by
Kennedy Michnewicz scored a run by
Jadyn Winkler, and a double by
Jessica Newsom brought in runs by
Katie Palmer and Michnewicz.
Blackburn battled back to retake the lead in the bottom of the six inning on a two-run homer to make the score 5-4. Newsom sealed the win for the Fightin' Engineers after putting them ahead for the final time with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh.
Audrey Theuring earned the win in the circle pitching 6.0 innings with two strikeouts allowing just two earned runs. Smith came in to close the game earning her second save of the season.
The Fightin' Engineers continued to shine at the plate in game two out-hitting the Beavers 18-9.
A single by
Katelyn Sarvis brought in a run by Newsom to give the Engineers the early lead in the top of the first. Blackburn put together a couple tough innings to build a 3-1 lead midway through the game.
Rose-Hulman rattled off multiple base hits in the fourth putting up six runs to retake the lead with a score of 7-3.
Rose would tack on three more runs in the fifth to earn the win in game two and complete the sweep.
Kayla Schnippel earned the win in the circle pitching 4.2 innings with two strikeouts.
Rose-Hulman will return home to face Anderson University in HCAC action on Saturday, April 13 at 1 PM and 3 PM.
