TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team split their Saturday doubleheader with the Anderson Ravens at Art Nehf Field. Anderson pulled out a 10-6 win in game one, but the Fightin' Engineers rebounded with a 5-3 win in game two.
The Ravens got on the board first in game one with a pair of runs, but Rose-Hulman answered with four straight to take a 4-2 lead.
Kade Kline brought home a run on a ground out in the third.
Dalton Busboom added an RBI double in the fourth, and
Connor O'Connell would score on a wild pitch to put the Fightin' Engineers in front.
Peter Rogers added an insurance run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly.
From then on, it would be all Anderson. Tyler Smitherman hit his first of two runs in the sixth, and the Ravens tacked on four in the seventh and three more in the eighth to take a 10-4 lead.Â
The Fightin' Engineers added two more in the eighth on another RBI single from Busboom and a sacrifice fly by
Michael Stenger, but they would fall 10-6.
Michael Yager finished the game with 7.0 innings pitched and 7 runs allowed after a tough final inning.
Tyler Orr added a shutout inning of relief in the ninth.
Colter Couillard-Rodak, O'Connell, and Busboom all added multiple hits in the loss, and Busboom added multiple RBIs.
In game number two,
Ian Kline toed the bump for Rose-Hulman and delivered a gem of a performance, going 8.2 innings and allowing just 7 hits and 3 runs with 5 strikeouts.
Rose-Hulman took the lead early on RBI singles from Busboom and Rogers to lead 2-0 after two.Â
Anderson got one back in the third, but the Fightin' Engineers extended their lead back to two with another RBI single from Busboom in the fifth.
Rose-Hulman added two more runs to stretch the lead to 5-2, and they would hold on for the 5-3 victory.
Jonathan Oliger picked up the four-out save for his fourth save of the season and ninth of his career.
Busboom led the team with 3 hits and 2 RBIs in the second game. Couillard-Rodak, O'Connell, and
Josh Erpenbeck also added multiple hits in the win.
With the split, Rose-Hulman moves to 18-13 on the season and 9-5 in the HCAC. They will return to their home field on Sunday at 12 PM for the rubber match of the three-game series.
