BLUFFTON, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over the Bluffton Beavers on Saturday. Rose-Hulman earned a win in game one with a score of 8-1, and defeated the Beavers in game two with a final of 6-1.
The Fightin' Engineers were led by a strong pitching performance from
Aubrey Smith. Smith earned the win pitching a complete game going 7.0 innings with three strikeouts allowing just one hit in the contest.Â
Katelyn Sarvis got the Engineers on the board with a single to bring in runs by Smith and
Jessica Newsom in the top of the first. The team had a productive fifth inning with three runs scored to extend their lead.Â
Phoebe Worstell sealed the victory with a home run in the top of the seventh to defeat the Beavers in game one.Â
The Fightin' Engineers continued to produce at the plate out-hitting the Beavers 12-6 in the second game of the day to solidify the sweep against Bluffton.Â
Bluffton got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Caledonia Coleman tied the game with a single that brought in a run by
Lucille Pyrz.Â
Rose-Hulman finished the game strong scoring five runs in the top of the seventh. Singles by Smith and
Kayla Schnippel and a home run by Sarvis earned the Fightin' Engineers their 20th win of the season.Â
Phoebe Worstell earned the win in the circle pitching all 7.0 innings with four strikeouts.
The team now stands at 20-10 overall and 7-3 in the HCAC this season. Rose-Hulman will continue conference play hosting Franklin College on Wednesday, April 24 at 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM.Â
