TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers softball team hosted the top team in the HCAC this season in the Franklin Grizzlies on Wednesday. The team suffered two losses to Franklin with final scores of 8-0 and 8-0.
The Grizzlies were able to get started early in the first game of the day with a two-run homer in the second inning to strike first. Another homer in the second would score three more runs to give Franklin a commanding lead.
Franklin continued to produce offensively to claim the shutout win in game one.
Aubrey Smith suffered the loss in the circle and
Jessica Newsom led the team at the plate going two for three in the first game.
The Grizzlies got off to a strong start in game two jumping to a 5-0 lead in the second inning. Franklin was able to close the game out scoring three more runs in the fourth and holding off the Engineers in the fifth to complete the sweep over Rose-Hulman.
Phoebe Worstell was credited the loss in the second game of the day pitching 3.1 innings with two strikeouts.
Rose-Hulman drops to 20-12 overall this season and 7-5 in the HCAC. The team will travel to face Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday, April 27 at 1 PM and 3 PM.
