CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team came up short in both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Mount St. Joseph with 7-0 and 5-1 losses.
After two scoreless innings, Mount St. Joseph got on the board first in game one with two runs in the bottom of the third.
The Lions extended their lead putting up five runs in the fifth inning. Rose-Hulman struggled to get their offense going and suffered the shutout loss in the first game of the day.
Phoebe Worstell,
Katelyn Sarvis, and
Jadyn Winkler each recorded a hit in the loss.
Aubrey Smith was credited with the loss after four innings pitched, and
Audrey Theuring added 2 innings of relief with just 1 hit and 1 unearned run allowed.
In game two, the Lions continued to control the momentum as they scored the first run of the game in third and added four more in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.
The Fightin' Engineers rallied in the seventh with a double by Sarvis, a single by
Kennedy Michnewicz, and an RBI groundout by
Caledonia Coleman, but Rose-Hulman would come up short in a 5-1 loss.
Michnewicz had the lone multi-hit game of the day with two hits, and Sarvis and
Kayla Schnippel each added one hit.
Phoebe Worstell led the Fightin' Engineers in the circle suffering the loss after pitching 4.2 innings, and Theuring pitched 1.1 innings of shutout softball in relief.
With the losses, Rose-Hulman falls to 20-14 on the season and 7-7 in the HCAC. Rose-Hulman will return home to host Hanover College on Wednesday, May 1 at 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM to kick off their final week of the 2024 regular season.
