TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team completed a three-game weekend sweep of Bluffton on Sunday with a 14-11 victory over the Beavers.
Bluffton opened the scoring in the second inning with four runs on three consecutive RBI singles, but Rose-Hulman did not wait long to crack back with four of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Colton Brown brought home a run with a single, and
Kade Kline added an RBI ground out. The Fightin' Engineers then manufactured a run with a double steal in a first-third situation as Brown scored on the throw to second, and
Colter Couillard-Rodak tied the game with an RBI single.
The Fightin' Engineers took the lead in the fourth on a three-run home run by
Peter Rogers, and they added another with an RBI single from
Connor O'Connell to stretch the lead to 8-4. They then made it 10-4 on an RBI single from
Mason Rasmussen and an RBI triple by Kline.
Bluffton tied the game up in the sixth inning as they had a hit by pitch, walk, single, double, home run all with two outs for a six run inning to tie it at 10-10, but Rose-Hulman would not let it stay tied for long as O'Connell tripled home a run and
Dalton Busboom brought him home with a sacrifice fly to make it 12-10.
The Fightin' Engineers would tack on one more in the seventh and one more in the eighth on a bases loaded walk by Busboom and a sacrifice fly by Kline to hold on for a 14-11 victory.
Brady Strawmyer finished the game with 5.2 innings pitched en route to the no decision. He finished with 7 hits, 6 earned runs, and 3 strikeouts.
Camden Judson pitched well in relief and earned his second career win with 2.0 innings pitched and only one run allowed with 4 strikeouts.
Jonathan Oliger came in and closed it out with the four-out save for his third save of the 2024 season.
Seven Rose-Hulman hitters recorded a multi-hit day with O'Connell leading the way with three hits. Kline and Rogers also added three RBIs in the win.
With the win, the Fightin' Engineers improve to 14-10 on the season and 6-4 in the HCAC. Rose-Hulman will return to action on Tuesday, April 9 at 3 PM CT as they travel to St. Louis to take on the WashU Bears.
