RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team traveled to Earlham to take on the Quakers for the first time in school history, and they brought home a doubleheader split with a 2-0 loss and 2-1 win.
The first game started as a pitching duel with both teams being held scoreless through the first three innings before Earlham was able to take advantage of four walks and a single to bring home the first two runs of the game.
Rose-Hulman struggled to get the bats going and would suffer their second shutout loss of the season after being held to just 2 hits.Â
Aubrey Smith was credited the loss in the circle pitching 3.2 innings with five strikeouts.Â
In the second game,
Jadyn Winkler got the Fightin' Engineers on the board first with a solo home run in the top of the second, and they would double their lead in the third whenÂ
Phoebe Worstell brought home Smith with an RBI single to make it 2-0.
The Quakers took advantage of a Rose-Hulman error in the fourth to bring home an unearned run, but Rose-Hulman would keep them off the board for the rest of the game and bring home a 2-1 victory.
Worstell earned the win in the circle pitching 5.0 innings with three strikeouts, andÂ
Audrey Theuring came in as a reliever to earn a save pitching 2.0 innings with one strikeout.Â
With the split, Rose-Hulman moves to 13-9 on the season and 2-2 in the HCAC. The Fightin' Engineers will return to action traveling to face Blackburn on Thursday, April 11 at 3 PM and 5 PM.Â
