KOKOMO, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball opened the HCAC Baseball Tournament with a 5-0 victory over Franklin College on Thursday afternoon. The Fightin' Engineers move on to play Transylvania at 7:45 PM in the winners bracket.
Michael Yager was the star for the Fightin' Engineers with a complete game shutout to pick up the win for Rose-Hulman. He finished the game with 148 pitches and 8 strikeouts with just 3 walks and 5 hits allowed.
The Fightin' Engineers got on the board in the second inning with an RBI double by
Josh Erpenbeck and an RBI groundout by
Jonathan Oliger to take an early 2-0 lead.
Rose-Hulman came alive again in the fifth inning, loading the bases with just one out, and
Connor O'Connell ripped a sacrifice fly to the warning track for an RBI.
Then,
Colton Brown stepped up with a two-run single to stretch the lead to 5-0.
Kade Kline,
Peter Rogers, Brown, and
Mason Rasmussen led the team with two hits each.
The Fightin' Engineers improve to 24-17 on the season and advance to tonight's winners bracket semifinal against the Transylvania Pioneers at 7:45 PM.
