WHEATON, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman women's volleyball team traveled to Wheaton College for the first day of the Wheaton Invitational on Friday night. The team split their two matches falling to the Wheaton Thunder 3-1 and defeating the Lawrence Vikings 3-0. This puts the team at 3-6 overall this season.
The Fightin' Engineers faced off against the host school in their first match of the invite. The team traded the first two sets to stand 1-1 heading into the third.
Wheaton claimed the third set after finishing on a 5-0 run to win 25-16. The Thunder finished the match after winning the fourth set on a 4-0 run to defeat the Engineers.
Desiree Beverley led the team with 10 kills in the match.
Hannah Bergfeld had an impressive performance recording a double-double with 14 assists and 11 digs.
Rose-Hulman bounced back in their match against Lawrence. The team dismantled the Vikings earning the win in three straight sets 25-15, 25-18, 25-10.
Jillian Gregg was the standout leading the team with 10 kills.
Julia Irmen led the team with 19 assists and
Lily Ebright was the star defensively with a team-high 18 digs.
Rose-Hulman will continue the invitational taking on Aurora and Beloit on Saturday, September 14 at 11 AM CT and 1:30 PM CT.
