NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team picked up another big HCAC road win on Wednesday night with a 53-46 victory over the Manchester Spartans.
The Fightin' Engineers jumped out to a 10-3 lead just five minutes inot the game, and they would only relinquish their lead for 11 seconds in the game.
After Rose-Hulman lead 17-7 after one, Manchester got back into the contest by winning both the second and third quarters to cut the lead to 39-35. The Spartans would then open the final 10 minutes with a made three and a pair of free throws to take their only lead of the game at 40-39.
However, a
Jamie Baum jumper just 11 seconds later gave the Fightin' Engineers the lead, the control, and later, the win. That jumper sparked a 7-0 run with a three by
CK Gallegos Rodriguez and a layup by
Emilia Diaz put Rose-Hulman in front 46-40 with just 4:30 remaining.
Manchester would cut the lead to one possession one final time, but Baum scored 8 of her team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Fightin' Engineers.
Jamie Baum led Rose-Hulman with 12 points, and
CK Gallegos Rodriguez recorded her fifth career double digit scoring performance with 10 points in the win.
Emma Schipp led the team with 7 rebounds and scored 4 points.
Sophia Reese also tallied 9 points and a team-high 3 assists.
With the win, Rose-Hulman improves to 8-9 on the season and 5-5 in the HCAC and into sixth place in the conference. The team is just one game out of third place in the league following losses by Franklin, Mount St. Joseph, and Hanover on Wednesday night.
