LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell short with a 62-39 defeat to Transylvania University on Saturday afternoon despite a strong defensive showing from the Fightin' Engineers.
Rose-Hulman controlled the game early as they powered forward to a quick 10-3 lead over the Pioneers. Transylvania came right back with a run of their own, but a
Julia Meyer jumper gave the Fightin' Engineers a 12-10 after the first quarter.

CK Gallegos Rodriguez layup inside pushed the lead back to two possessions early in the second period, but Transylvania would retake control with a 19-4 run over the next 8:30 to stretch their lead to double digits.
Jamie Baum would send the teams into the locker room with a big and-one at the buzzer to cut the lead to 29-21 despite Rose-Hulman forcing the Pioneers into 16 first-half turnovers.
In the second half, the Pioneers continued to pull away to an eventual 62-39 victory. Overall in the game, Rose-Hulman put a great defensive showing forcing the Pioneers into 27 total turnovers. The 27 forced turnovers are the second-most forced in a single game by Rose-Hulman in the last seven seasons.
CK Gallegos Rodriguez led the team with a career-high 16 points, and she also added 7 rebounds.
Jamie Baum added 8 points and led the team with 4 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.
Julia Meyer also scored 6 for the Fightin' Engineers.
With the loss, the Fightin' Engineers fall to 8-10 on the season and 5-6 in the HCAC. Rose-Hulman returns to Hulbert Arena for a pair of home contests next weekend as they host Franklin on Wednesday and Berea on Saturday.
