Men's Basketball Climbs to Second in HCAC with Road Win over Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's basketball team picked up a big HCAC road win on Wednesday night with a 63-61 victory over the Franklin Grizzlies.

Rose-Hulman was led by Miles McGowen recording his fifth double-double of the season finishing the game with 13 points and a team-high 16 rebounds. Kobe Stoudemire led the team in scoring with 16 points in the contest. The Fightin' Engineers had two other players in double figures including Joey Schmitz (12) and Cole Pride (11).

The game proved to be a competitive one with nine lead changes throughout the contest. After being tied at 25-25 with 4:34 remaining in the first half, Franklin put together a 10-4 run to take the lead at the halftime break 35-29.

Rose-Hulman answered with a run of their own outscoring the Grizzlies 9-2 to start the second half and retake the lead 38-37 on a made three-pointer by Pride with 14:43 left. Franklin cut the lead to one point after a made layup made the score 60-59 with 45 seconds remaining in regulation.

A made layup by Stoudemire and made free throw down the stretch put the game out of reach for the Grizzlies and secured the victory for the Fightin' Engineers.

Both teams shot an identical 42.6% from the field, but Rose-Hulman got the edge on their shooting from beyond the arc finishing the game at 55.6% compared to the Grizzlies 27.8%. Rose-Hulman also won the battle on the boards out-rebounding Franklin 37-28.

The win moves Rose-Hulman into a tie for second place in the conference standings with Franklin at 9-3, trailing Anderson by two games for the top spot. The Fightin' Engineers return home to host Berea on Greek Night at 3 PM on Saturday, February 1.
