CINCINNATI, Ohio. – Rose-Hulman journeyed to Cincinnati, Ohio, where the Fightin' Engineers drew with the Mt. St. Joseph Lions in a hard-fought 1-1 match.
The Lions got on the board early in the match, as Mohit Naphray scored an eighth-minute goal on an assist from Michael Smith.
Eli Miller nearly tied the game five minutes later, firing RHIT's first shot on goal of the game, which was saved down the middle.
Justin Burns hauled in his first save of the match in the 13
th minute, and he would add another save in the top left corner three minutes later.
Rose-Hulman was awarded a 19th-minute corner kick, which resulted in
Cameron Hannah adding a strike towards the top right corner of the goal, which would also be deflected away.
Burns would close out the half with a 42nd-minute save, keeping the deficit at 1-0. The Fightin' Engineers closed out the half outshooting Mt. St. Joseph 6-4, while both teams recorded three saves and three corner kicks.
Rose-Hulman dominated possession on the offensive end early in the second half, as
Oliver Fila was able to record shots on goal in the 53
rd and 59
th minutes, while
Ben Neemann added a 61st-minute strike on goal.
The Fightin' Engineers would finally find the back of the net in the 63
rd, as
Jacob Pohl scored a goal for the second consecutive game.
Greyson Hovermale picked up the assist on the play, making an immediate impact in his first career game.
Miller recorded his third shot on goal in the 75
th minute, and Burns would haul in his fifth save of the game shortly afterward.
The Fightin' Engineers had two chances late in the game to take the lead as Hannah and Neemann fired shots on goal in the 85
th and 86
th minutes, but they were both saved by Carson Sabers, who finished the match with nine saves in the 1-1 tie.
Rose-Hulman will stay on the road as they go up against Earlham on Wednesday, October 15, at 3:30 PM.
