Rose-Hulman Conquers the Quakers; Improves to 4-1 in the HCAC

RICHMOND, Ind. – Rose-Hulman improved to 4-1 in the HCAC as the Fightin' Engineers pulled away with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Earlham Quakers.

The Fightin' Engineers' offense got off to a hot start as Lena Darini and Alex Adams each recorded shots on goal in the first eight minutes of action.

In the 14th minute, Sydnee Schuler fired a shot from the right side that was deflected away by Quaker keeper, Liz Godfrey. Lauren Marquardt recovered the deflection and launched a shot into the back of the net to put Rose-Hulman in the lead. Schuler assisted on the play as Marquardt scored her team-high fifth goal of the season.

The Fightin' Engineers would conclude the half with a 1-0 lead, where they allowed just one shot, which sailed wide right.

RHIT continued to thrive on the offensive end as Adams and Emma Johns each attempted shots on goal during the first seven minutes of the second half.

The Quakers had a great opportunity to tie the game as they earned a 59th-minute corner kick. They attempted a cross that sailed right in front of the goal, where Camille Clark made a great defense play, heading the pass away from deep inside the box.

Ally Smith would later add multiple shots on goal for Rose-Hulman, which came on a 63rd-minute free kick, and a 64th-minute shot from the left side of the box.

Following a steal from Rose's defense, Illiana Hernandez received a pass, and she proceeded to dribble past multiple defenders downfield. After beating Earlham's defense, she recorded a strike on target that was deflected away by Godfrey.

With the Fightin' Engineers on the attack once again, Schuler had a great opportunity to pick up her second assist of the game. Schuler recorded an 80th-minute cross inside the box to Katie Choi, where her shot on goal was saved by Godfrey.

Marquardt would add Rose-Hulman's final shot on goal in the 85th minute, which was also saved by Godfrey, who finished the match with 11 total saves.

The Quakers had one last chance to tie the game in the 88th minute. The team found themselves on a 2 on 1 break, but they were denied by Camille Clark as she recorded a steal and launched the ball away to secure the 1-0 victory for Rose-Hulman.

The Fightin' Engineers concluded the match with 18 total shots, with 12 being on target.

On the defensive end, Rose-Hulman once again allowed just one shot in the second half that sailed wide right. The defensive line of Clark, Smith, Adams, and Vianey Garcia had themselves a phenomenal day as all four athletes played all 90 minutes, where they did not allow a single shot on goal.

The Fightin' Engineers will be seeking their fifth win in the past six games as they take on the Transylvania Pioneers. The game will kick off on October 18 at 1 PM in Lexington, Ky.
