CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman volleyball team traveled to face Mount St. Joseph on Saturday. The Fightin' Engineers suffered a loss to the Lions after five sets with scores of 24-26, 25-20, 22-25, 25-21, 9-15. This drops the team to 13-8 overall and 1-2 in the HCAC.
The team was led by an impressive performance from
Emma Blanton, who finished the match with a double-double, recording 19 digs and a team-high 18 kills.
Greta Carlson also recorded a double-double with 11 digs and 13 kills.
Lily Ebright led the defense with 20 digs, and
Julia Irmen led the team with 38 assists.
The match proved to be a battle of two talented teams in the conference. The score remained close in the first set. Rose-Hulman scored three straight points to tie the set at 24-24. MSJ finished strong to take the set win and the early lead, scoring the last two points.
The Fightin' Engineers made a statement in the second set. After trailing 18-14, Rose-Hulman strung together an 11-2 run, scoring seven unanswered points to win the set on a kill by Carlson 25-20.
After falling in the third set 25-22, Rose-Hulman bounced back to win another competitive set in the fourth, 25-21.
In the final set, MSJ jumped out to a lead of 7-3. The Lions took advantage of the strong start and closed out the match with a win, defeating the Fightin' Engineers 15-9.
Rose-Hulman will return home to host Franklin for their Cancer Research Game on Wednesday, October 22, at 7 PM.
