TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman volleyball team welcomed Franklin College to campus for their Cancer Research Game on Wednesday night. The team picked up a big win over the Grizzlies with set scores of 23-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-21. This advances the team to 14-8 overall and 2-2 in the HCAC.
Rose-Hulman held a bake sale to collect donations for the Baylor College of Medicine in support of cancer research. Funds from the bake sale and other generous donations will be donated to the Dan L Duncan Cancer Center.
Greta Carlson led the team in kills with 16 and an impressive .333 hitting percentage.
Emma Blanton recorded her seventh double-double of the season and her fifth in a row, totaling 14 kills and 15 digs.
Julia Irmen also had an incredible performance, tallying 40 assists and 11 digs on the night.
Lily Ebright was the defensive standout with a team-high 16 digs in the match.
After dropping a close first set, Rose-Hulman bounced back in the second set, rattling off six straight points to claim the win on an attack error by the Grizzlies to even the score at one set each.
After trailing 6-4 in the third set, the Fightin' Engineers put together an 11-1 run to take a commanding lead 15-7. Rose-Hulman finished the set on a 6-2 run to take the 2-1 advantage in the match.
In the fourth set, the score remained close. After being tied at 19-19, Rose-Hulman made a late surge to score four straight points and jump ahead 22-19. The team finished strong with a kill by Blanton to finish off the Grizzlies and claim their second conference win of the season.
The women's volleyball team will continue conference action, hosting Hanover on Saturday, October 25, at 11 AM for National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
