HANOVER, Ind. – Rose-Hulman improved to 2-0 in the HCAC as the Fightin' Engineers knocked off the Hanover Panthers by a score of 2-0.
Rose-Hulman quickly got on the board as
Lauren Marquardt scored the opening goal four minutes into the match, on an assist from
Sydnee Schuler. Marquardt has now scored in back-to-back games, while Schuler dished out her third assist over the past five games.
The Panthers responded with consecutive shots on goal from Emma Gill and Lily Clark in the 23rd minute, but they were denied both times by
Brooke Spurlock.
After missing the past five games due to injury,
Iliana Hernandez returned to Rose's lineup as she was subbed in during the 25
th minute. Five minutes later, Hernandez scored her team-leading third goal of the season, which put Rose-Hulman ahead by two.
Natalie Morrow and
Katie Choi each added early second-half shots for the Fightin' Engineers, which both sailed over the goal. In the 76
th minute, Cam Horsley attempted a pair of shots wide left before her 80th-minute shot down the middle was saved by Spurlock.
Lena Darini nearly gave Rose-Hulman a three-goal lead with an 88th-minute strike on goal, which was saved in the top left corner by Emma Hartmann.
The Fightin' Engineers would conclude the match by a final score of 2-0, with Spurlock recording her fifth shutout of the season in a four-save performance.
Rose-Hulman will be seeking their third straight HCAC clean sheet as they face Franklin on Wednesday, October 8, at 7 PM in Franklin, Ind.
